Littlest Bookworms
For ages 2 to 3 years

Mondays, 10 am
A more structured story hour for those who can listen to a book but with lots of activity for these busy tots! We’ll read short stories and play some singing/rhyming games.

Bouncing Bookworms
For Infants through 24 months

Tuesdays, 10 am
Meet other new parents and caregivers at this popular “Mommy & Me” program. Free play on our soft toys with a simple story, songs and bubbles!

Lil’ Bookworms
For ages 4 to 5 years

Mondays, 1:30 pm
This preschool-age story hour is designed for pre-readers. We’ll read two stories that will help their letter and sound recognition skills, play a game and do a theme-related craft each week. Children will be encourage to interact during the stories.

Battle of the Books is a national program for middle school students that promotes reading, encourages team work and challenges kids’ attention to detail.

The Butterfield Bookmarks are the 2007 Regional Champions—help us to continue to hold the title through 2008!

Participants are in grades 5 through 8 and will need to read 10 books throughout the spring and summer. Attendance at bi-weekly meetings is required. During the summer, participants will be asked to partake in local battles with area libraries to prepare for the Regional Battle in September.

Designed for 11- to 15-year olds, the Babysitter’s Training Course can help you:

Interview for a babysitting job

Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games

Perform first aid

Learn diapering and feeding techniques

Handle bedtime issues

Learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience

Workshop

Join 7th grader Kiefer Thorpe for this weekly program based on the popular book characters. Create and draw your own “Mr. Men” story and make your own mini-book! Watch a video and make up games based on the characters! 4 sessions.

Butterfield Bookmarks Take First Place in Local Battles

The Butterfield Bookmarks, The Julia L. Butterfield Memorial Library's Battle of the Books team, has won two out of three "battles" with local libraries as part of this national reading program for middle school-age children.

The 2007 Battle of the Books team includes Haldane students Albert Bajsicki, Claire Carroll, Elizabeth Casparian, Sonya Kuzminski, Michelle McEwen, Clare Shananhan, and Kiefer Thorpe. Clare and Kiefer had also participated in 2006. full article
